Synopsis:
I didn’t plan to be a runaway bride.
But, standing in the church wearing white and borrowed blue, I realized I didn’t have a choice.
I had to start over.
Even if it meant living—and working—a stone’s throw from the man who doesn’t know he broke my heart a decade ago.
So I stuffed my tulle and tears behind the wheel of a borrowed car, mascara tracking down my cheeks as I made the drive to Willow Bend, Wyoming.
I thought I could handle having Tobias in my life again. Believed after everything I’d gone though, the last thing I’d want is a man’s attention.
But from the second he storms into my office, dark eyes fusing to where I stand, I know I’m screwed. All the feelings I tried running from are still just as close as they ever were. Just as real.
Just as raw.
But feelings aren’t the only thing chasing me.
The dangers of my past are barreling down, hot and angry. Ready to punish me by taking away the only person who’s ever really mattered. The only person who wants me just as I am. The person who will do anything to protect me.
Even if it means sacrificing himself.

Review:
Brooke and Tobias share a past. They dated years ago before going their separate ways, though not all ties were truly cut. Tobias’s mother stayed in touch with Brooke, and when Brooke is invited to her wedding, it sets off a chain of events that brings the former lovers back into each other’s lives.
Brooke is still dealing with the aftermath of an abusive relationship – one that left lasting marks, both physically and emotionally. Making things even harder, her parents continue to side with her abuser. Tobias, however, becomes her safe place. Without hesitation, his family steps in as well, offering the care and support Brooke never received from her own. Seeing her finally surrounded by people who genuinely show up for her was deeply satisfying.
I’m a sucker for a good second-chance romance, and this one handled it well. The shared history between Brooke and Tobias is clearly reflected in how they interact in the present, and their connection felt believable and earned. Did Tobias sometimes feel a little too perfect? Yes. While I do love a male main character who is supportive, a few more flaws wouldn’t have taken away from his appeal. The spice was present, but it never overshadowed the emotional connection of the story.
Overall, this was an enjoyable and comforting read, with a strong emotional foundation and a second-chance romance that truly worked.
It is the second book in the series, but can be read without prior knowledge of Book 1.
