Especially if something else comes with it? How far would you be willing to deviate from your moral compass?That was a very interesting premise, and I was not expecting it to become such a complex story. The three women initially appear to be a very close-knit group. They have known each other for many years and are always there for one another when needed. However, looking a little closer, it becomes clear that they are keeping things from each other, things that could ruin their friendship. Adding money and even more secrets to an already messy situation is certainly not their smartest idea. Did it make for a very engaging story? Absolutely.Especially when you add a complicated and messy family situation that connects many of the storylines, making it clear that they’ve opened a can of worms that will eventually come back to bite them.A fast-paced story, multiple POVs, and plenty of twists made this an enjoyable read for me. By now, this is exactly what I expect from her, and she did not disappoint. 🙂

Sie ist liebenswert, hat gelernt, sich zurückzunehmen, und akzeptiert, dass sie im Königreich nie dieselbe Aufmerksamkeit wie ihre Schwester erhalten wird. Ihr Vater duldet sie zwar, kann den Fehltritt ihrer Mutter jedoch nicht vergessen.Als ihre Schwester kurz vor der Hochzeit mit dem König eines anderen Reiches verschwindet, muss Yara als Ersatz einspringen. Begeistert ist sie davon nicht, doch nach zwei gescheiterten Ehen (sie wird schon einen zeitnahen *Ausweg* finden) fügt sie sich ihrem Schicksal. Schnell merkt sie jedoch, dass Jareth ganz anders ist als erwartet und ihre neue Heimat ihr Chancen bietet, von denen sie nie zu träumen wagte. Bis sich plötzlich alles zum Schlechten wendet.Yara ist halb Mensch, halb Regenbogenfae und gehört nirgends richtig dazu. Erst durch Jareth erkennt sie, wie viel in ihr steckt. Ich mochte sie von Anfang an, und die Chemie zwischen den beiden hat mich sofort überzeugt. Ständig wartete ich darauf, dass sie sich ihre Gefühle endlich eingestehen.Dieses Buch war eine echte Überraschung. Schon nach wenigen Seiten war ich gefesselt und konnte es kaum aus der Hand legen. Die Handlung bleibt durchgehend spannend, Yara ist eine besondere Protagonistin, und ich bekam alles, was ich mir erhofft hatte. Eine klare Empfehlung.

As this was a re-read for me, I remembered not enjoying it as much as the first instalment, and unfortunately, that didn’t change the second time around. It felt more like a setup for the finale, introducing a new character (who will become very important) and clearly highlighting that even the best intentions can lead to bad outcomes.Yeeran’s return to the place where she grew up, sharing the story of the forgotten race and hoping to be welcomed back after her unfortunate departure, felt a little naive. Seeing how she was treated was sad, but I suspected early on that this was exactly how things would unfold. I was never a fan of her former leader and lover. However, Yeeran’s ability to reflect on the differences in leadership, and recognise how some of her own actions contributed to her situation, allowed for some meaningful personal growth.Lettle was, and still is, the character I enjoy the most. She sometimes overlooks those around her in pursuit of her goals, but overall she isn’t afraid to push back and go after what she wants. When she became the target of an unfortunate situation, I was genuinely concerned for her safety.At the end of the day, the story shows what people are willing to do to remain in power, and what can happen when the needs of a large portion of the population are systematically ignored. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. I am, however, very curious to see how everything comes together in the finale.
