This one, though, didn’t fully live up to my expectations.The story itself sounded very promising. A woman’s main objective is to be married by the age of 28. Everything they do in life is preparation for it. If you grow up in one of the higher classes, your chances of succeeding are significantly better. If you grow up poor, those chances are practically non-existent. In a world where fewer and fewer males are being born, not bearing one reduces your worth, even if you are in a relationship. Finding love and being in a happy relationship is no longer a priority in the world they live in. But not everybody agrees with what is happening, especially the protagonist.This premise gave me serious The Handmaid’s Tale vibes, and I was here for it. Women being reduced to vessels whose sole purpose is to give birth to sons, and being treated like cattle, came across as genuinely disturbing and was the part of the story I enjoyed the most. But then we also got The Bachelor vibes, where twelve different women had to compete for one man, and that part of the story fell flat for me. Or maybe I’m just not a fan of that kind of storyline in general.Did I enjoy this book? Yes. But my interest faded as the story unfolded, and I just wasn’t as invested the further I got into it. It had a lot of potential, but it didn’t fully deliver for me.

No, but if you do, the characters and some of the events mentioned will make more sense.In summary, this book is about work-life balance and prioritising what is most important to you. We get a lovely couple who finally decide to spend some well-deserved time off together, but sadly, that doesn’t happen, and it puts a strain on their relationship.Novellas can be hit or miss for me, and I’m sad to say that this one didn’t add much to the overall story. It was cute and quick to read, but it didn’t leave me feeling like it contributed anything significant. A lot of the conflict came down to miscommunication, and I wasn’t a fan of that.It was an okay read, but I wouldn’t consider it mandatory reading as part of the series.

Naomi has finally escaped her abusive relationship, which had left her cut off from her friends and controlled by her partner for a long time. She is looking for a fresh start and finds a place where she can rest and think about her future. While there, she makes friends and meets a handsome stranger.That part of the story worked well for me. After being broken down for such a long time, seeing her rebuild herself bit by bit, rather than magically having everything be perfect overnight, was well done. I also appreciated that she didn't want to rush into another relationship and chose to take things slowly on the physical side of things. That felt realistic given her situation. While I liked how considerate he was at times, some of his protective behaviour came across as a red flag to me.Adding some complexity through the way this world treats people from other areas provided useful background information, but it felt a little misplaced at times (why did a situation suddenly escalate like this).This book also incorporates more elements of the modern world, which I was very unsure about. I found myself wondering multiple times what time period or version of the world the story was actually set in.Overall, it was an okay read for me. I had high expectations, but in the end, it just wasn't quite for me.

Baumgartner📚 Genre: Mystery, Crime, Thriller📅 Release Date: December 8, 2025📗 available in various formats – included in Kindle Unlimited📱 Read as: Kindle💸 Bought📆 Pages: 468⭐️ 3/5Review:Give me a serial killer story, a gruesome crime, and some detectives, and I’m usually on board immediately. This one had the potential to be a good start to a series that could be right up my alley. While it succeeded in some aspects, it lacked in others.The murder investigation was the part I enjoyed the most. I liked how everything came together and how the puzzle pieces gradually fell into place. I also wouldn’t rule out that parts of it were inspired by things that are actually happening in reality. Did it become a bit too much in a short amount of time, and did it all come together a little too neatly? Yes, but I didn’t really mind.The main thing I was hoping for was a stronger connection to the characters, their personal motivations, and their backgrounds. This was the part that didn’t quite work for me. I simply didn’t feel connected to them and kept hoping something would click, which sadly never happened. Yes, I got small glimpses into their lives, but the overall interactions weren’t enough to make me instantly fall in love with them. It did give me enough, though, to make me interested in continuing with the next instalment.
