Synopsis:

Some bloodlines are cursed.
Some legacies bite back.
Seraphina Bellarose wanted nothing more than a quiet life—no magic, no ghosts, no demons. But when her mother is murdered and the past claws its way back, she’s forced to return to the one place she swore she’d never call home The Crescent Enclave.
Dragging her sixteen-year-old twins to the ancestral estate is bad enough. Unleashing their dormant powers? Worse. Having to bind a sarcastic, self-help-obsessed demon? That’s a whole new level of complicated.
Amid old enemies stirring and long-hidden truths emerging, she discovers her closest friend is anything but human.

Add whiskey to the list of things she needs — right after a miracle and a nap.
Now Seraphina must confront the man she once loved, the magic she buried, and the monsters who tore her family apart.
Nothing is as it seems.
The shadows are closing in.

Ghosts don’t rest. Demons don’t forget. Blood always remembers.
Welcome to the Bellarose Legacy.

Review:

When Seraphina mother is killed (by her power-hungry half-brother), she waked up in the middle of the night and not only learns about the death, but also that she is now the next in line and has to take over the role. This is exactly what she ran away from when she was younger. She wanted to live a normal life with her children and not get dragged into this again. Now she has no choice but step into her new role.

What I enjoyed a lot was that our FMC was a grown-up woman with children. I cannot remember having seen this prior, so I applaud it. That comes with a more complex character, and it is so refreshing. The interactions with her children, the ghost of her dead mother (who decided to still hang around), the demon (who is actually a nice guy if you get to know him) and the father of her children (surprise, you have kids and children: meet your father) and so enjoyable and funny. It just works 🙂 They all need to come together, but their differences aside and prevent disasters from happening.

I really enjoyed the dynamic and was laughing a lot. The dialogue was so good 🙂 Some of the storylines were dropped along the way and I wish we would have focused on these a bit more (we started training the children but then moved on kind of). I enjoyed the start to the series a lot and look forward to the next one.
