This is the 2nd book in The Bellarose Legacy

Synopsis:

Falling through time wasn’t an accident.
It was a summons. A claim. A warning.

Zinnia Hart never believed in destiny. Not for a tattooed, foul-mouthed Bayou girl with a caffeine addiction and zero interest in becoming anyone’s chosen anything.

Until she’s ripped out of modern-day New Orleans and dumped in 1695—half-dressed, covered in mud, and one sarcastic comment away from being burned as a witch.

Hunted by forces older than scripture and guarded by an angel serving celestial community service—with the patience of a wasp—and a brooding, unfairly attractive woodsman, Zinnia is forced to confront a truth she was never meant to learn:

She is Gateborn. Les Revenante by blood. A weapon the universe has been waiting to ignite.

As past and present begin to collide, allies gather—her grandmother Pauline, Seraphina, even the dead—racing to bring her home before something far worse reaches her first.

But Zinnia’s magic is waking.
And magic remembers what its bearer has forgotten.

Some legacies bless.
Some curse.
Zinnia’s does both.

Review:

After the cliffhanger ending of the first book, I was eager to know on how it’d be resolved.

While it came with some moments that I enjoyed, it didn’t come with the spark and character interactions that made me fall in love with the first one. I understood that our main characters were split up, we got introduced to new characters and the aim was to find their way back to each other again.

The story felt a bit rushed at times also. Overall, still an enjoyable read that left me a little bit unsatisfied at the end.
