Synopsis:

Edith Vale thought she was done keeping secrets.

Review:

After the events of the first book, Edith has to deal with the aftermath. Accepting the loss, embracing her new role, keeping her powers a secret for as long as possible, and suddenly becoming the focus of multiple groups with different intentions does not make things any easier.
Who can she trust, and who can she tell the truth?

I enjoyed the first book in the series a lot and can confirm that the second book builds on everything I appreciated about it. I like knowing what is actually going on, and the world-building is nuanced without ever making me feel lost or confused. This is one of the things I have to give credit where it is due.
Edith is such a likeable character. She learned early in life to keep certain things to herself, and when one of her decisions leads to significant consequences, not everyone is happy about it.

Some consider her powers dangerous (as a simple human, I can understand that perspective), while others want to maintain the status quo. She has certainly made a lot of people feel uncomfortable.
In the middle of all that, she is still doing what she does best and has to investigate a series of murders that are more connected than she originally thought.
This book grew on premise of book one and I am looking forward for what’s to come.
