Review: Name of the Game by Chloe Hart

The more time I am forced to spend with him is dangerous as we both come to terms that this isn’t a game to win but some mistakes can be forgiven and others can’t as the past catches up with us.

Review:

We meet Sarah and Cameron when they are teenagers. Sarah is used to taking care of her siblings and others, with her mother having to be the sole financial provider of the family. She learned to put the needs of others before her own, and when offered a weekend getaway – simply enjoying life for a bit – she takes the opportunity to act normal just for a short amount of time.
Cameron comes with his own baggage but got the chance to live a more financially stable life.
The connection between them is obvious. But then something happens that causes them to drift away from each other.

Twelve years later, we meet them again, and the pull is still there. An opportunity presents itself, benefiting both of them, and they suddenly must confront what happened in the past and accept that there is still something there they cannot avoid any longer.
It was pretty obvious what would happen, but that didn’t take away from me enjoying the journey. Sarah is a character I instantly connected to, and her becoming a strong woman who looks out for herself and her small group of friends was one of my highlights. Cameron had the best intentions at heart, but it didn’t always come across as intended. Their interactions and connection came across so well, and we get quite a bit of spice – but I actually didn’t mind that. It didn’t take over the main story, which is something I appreciated.

With this being part of an interconnected series, it does work as a stand-alone. If you come across this, don’t shy away from giving it a try by itself.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, and I felt that I got more out of it than what the blurb was promising, and this is something I was very happy about.
