Synopsis:

Ember Reed is finally living her dream: chief stew on a Mediterranean superyacht, sun-kissed days at sea, and the star of Close Quarters, the hottest new reality TV show. But just as she finds her stride, the producers throw her a curveball—by hiring the one man who nearly sank her.

Finn Pearson was the one that got away. The boy who kissed her like they had forever, then left without a word. But now he’s the chef in her new crew, and the cameras are watching their every move, innocent, or not.

Even on a superyacht, there’s nowhere to hide from the past. Every stolen glance, every whispered argument, every lingering memory threatens to ignite what never fully burned out. And as the tension spills into their day jobs, even the dinner service is spiralling into disaster.

They’ve crashed before… but could eight weeks at sea be their second chance to get it right? Or will it be the storm that finally sinks them for good?

Review:

If you enjoy messy characters, chaotic stories, and a cast trapped together on a boat while being filmed around the clock, this book is going to be a lot of fun.

At the centre of it all are Ember and Finn, a couple who went through a painful breakup years ago. When they’re thrown together again on a new job -with Finn showing up alongside his current girlfriend – it’s immediately clear that things are about to get uncomfortable. A disaster waiting to happen, and honestly, I was more than ready for it. The banter, the dialogue, and especially the awkward interactions between them felt genuine and natural. What made it even better was the fact that they couldn’t avoid each other. The whole setup felt like a pressure cooker slowly heating up.
On top of that, there’s a larger crew, each with their own personalities, opinions, and history. You get the familiar character types – the ones who keep poking at an already burning fire – and some of them clearly enjoy stirring the pot a little too much.

Then there’s the camera crew, capturing everything: the good moments, the bad ones, and the ticking bomb everyone knows is bound to go off. Each chapter opens with an interview between the producers and a cast member, and by now we all know how those usually play out. These interviews give insight into everyone’s perspective while still keeping the main focus on Ember and Finn. I really enjoyed this storytelling choice, especially how the interviews hinted at what was coming without giving too much away. That kind of teasing is exactly how you keep me hooked.

Is it a perfect story? No. Are some moments over the top or a bit cliché? Absolutely. But what it does exceptionally well is keep things entertaining and make you feel like you’re right there, watching the chaos unfold. It doesn’t feel like a typical second-chance romance, and that’s what makes it such a fun read.
