Review:

Lexa lives with her grandma in a small village. It’s a quiet and uneventful life. One day, she dares to cross a threshold she was always told to stay behind, and suddenly a stranger shows up, changing her life from one day to the next.

Learning that she has powers, that her family kept something from her, and is destined to save her kingdom as the heir is just one more thing added to her list. And that handsome stranger being thrown into the mix is only making an already complicated situation even more challenging. Just a tiny bit, obviously 🙂
This book takes its time introducing us to the characters and the world, and I appreciated that a lot. It never felt boring and allowed Lexa to freak out when her world is suddenly turned upside down and everybody expects her to have a solution to a problem that has existed for a long time. I enjoyed seeing her struggle trying to figure it out.
What I liked about the magic was how it worked. We have elemental magic, but it is connected in an interesting way. You cannot simply teleport without being connected to your mind and imagining where you want to go, for example. Connecting the dots took time, and learning to master these abilities was an interesting part of her growth.
The love story was one of the highlights for me. It was given the time and space it deserved. It never felt like Griff wanted to force anything. He wanted her to come to the same conclusions on her own, and I was here for it. It was beautiful to see how they learned to trust each other and grow closer.
With this being a slightly longer book, it felt like the ideal length – not so slow that it dragged, but never rushing anything either. It struck the perfect balance for the story being told, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
