Review:

After the traumatic ending of the first book, Zylah is hiding away, barely making it. Even though she is in pain and getting worse every day, she is still looking out for others. When she is finally reunited with Holt, I felt like clapping. These two have a special bond, and him holding back so she can deal with her grief is admirable, but also painful to watch.
After that, we start picking up the pace. Marcus is planning to reunite his family and is preparing to take over, while Holt—and those loyal to him—make an effort to bring the fae and humans together and present a united front.
When Zylah learns who she really is and that there is (obviously) more to her than originally expected, watching her finally come to terms with it was one of my personal highlights of the book. She always felt like less, and even being considered half-fae was not enough in the eyes of many of the people she met. I also adored Zylah and Holt’s interactions. The connection these two have is amazing to see, and I cannot get enough of it.
This book sets the stage for the final battle. It begins slowly, starts picking up speed, and then delivers that cliffhanger ending. I’m eager for the next installment in the series.
