Synopsis:

Ten years ago, the kingdom of Jasad burned. Its magic outlawed; its royal family murdered down to the last child. At least, that’s what Sylvia wants people to believe.

The lost Heir of Jasad, Sylvia never wants to be found. She can’t think about how Nizahl’s armies laid waste to her kingdom and continue to hunt its people—not if she wants to stay alive. But when Arin, the Nizahl Heir, tracks a group of Jasadi rebels to her village, staying one step ahead of death gets trickier.

In a moment of anger Sylvia’s magic is exposed, capturing Arin’s attention. Now, to save her life, Sylvia will have to make a deal with her greatest enemy. If she helps him lure the rebels, she’ll escape persecution.

A deadly game begins. Sylvia can’t let Arin discover her identity even as hatred shifts into something more. Soon, Sylvia will have to choose between the life she wants and the one she left behind. The scorched kingdom is rising, and it needs a queen.

Review The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem

Review:

This book had been sitting on my backlog for a while, and I finally got around to reading it.

Sylvia comes from a powerful royal family, but after her parents are killed, her life takes a painful turn. Through hardship and loss, she slowly builds herself into a strong, capable woman determined to move forward. She doesn’t trust easily, and even the small group of people closest to her doesn’t know the full truth about her past.

When the leader of another royal family arrives in her small town and takes an interest in her, Sylvia is pulled into a world of schemes and political maneuvering. Forced to confront the life she’s been trying to keep hidden, she struggles to protect her identity. Things become even more complicated when the heir turns into more than someone simply using her for his own ambitions. Sylvia must face her past and decide what kind of future she wants – knowing her choice will affect not only her, but those around her as well.

I really enjoyed the world-building in this story. It added depth and complexity without ever becoming confusing, which isn’t always easy to achieve. The friendships and connections felt genuine, and the romance – much slower than what many books offer these days – felt natural and believable. The characters were allowed to truly connect before the physical side of their relationship came into play.

Overall, a very well-done and satisfying read 🙂
