Review:

With this being part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone, which I really liked, especially since it’s one of the later books.

The beginning immediately grabbed my attention. June is digging a hole. When asked by law enforcement why she is holding a shovel, no valid reason is provided by her. Obviously, you can’t just show up randomly with a shovel and not look suspicious, right?
With nothing concrete to hold her, she is allowed to leave, only to return to the scene of the crime, which makes her even more suspicious. I was eager to know what was going on.

Bit by bit, I was given the puzzle pieces, and it all came down to someone going missing years ago. Twenty years later, June returns for her high school reunion, and something in the time capsule makes her the prime suspect.
Once the direction of the story became clear to me, I wanted to know what had really happened. The events of the past were certainly messy and complex. Blair was not someone I was sad to learn was dead, considering how unlikeable she turned out to be. The mystery came with secrets involving many people in town, and things became very messy once everything started coming together.

I enjoyed the first half more than the second half. Once I knew what was going on, I didn’t care as much anymore about all the side plots and some of the characters involved.
Overall, it was an entertaining read that made me curious enough to check out some of the other books in the series.
