Review Wildflowers & Whiskey by T. Nolan
Synopsis:

Maeve Callaghan has spent years searching for a place to belong. So when she stumbles across an ad for a ranch immersion scheme during a late-night doomscroll, she takes it as a sign.

At Meadow Bell Ranch, everything feels right. The quiet mornings spent with a book. The satisfaction of a hard day’s work. The endless stretch of open country. Unfortunately, so does the brooding cowboy who happens to be her boss.

The more time Maeve spends with Wade, the more convinced she becomes that there’s more to him than he lets anyone see. It’s none of her business. Unfortunately, that has never stopped her before.

Then there’s his son—Colt. He is everything his father isn’t: open-hearted and sensitive. As he battles struggles of his own, he and Maeve form an unexpected bond built on trust and understanding.

As the bonds between them deepen, Maeve finds herself caring for both men in ways she never anticipated, so when secrets are revealed, Maeve finds herself tangled in a situation far more complicated than she ever imagined. And when the truth finally comes to light, she may have to choose between the people she’s come to care about and the only place that has ever truly felt like she belonged.

Review:

Cowboy romances are a relatively new genre for me, and I’m here to embrace it. 🙂

Maeve has not yet found her place in life. She bounces between different jobs and locations, with nothing ever truly feeling like home. When she stumbles upon an ad looking for someone to help out on a ranch in a different country, she signs up in the middle of the night, not expecting anything to come of it. The opportunity calls out to her, and it feels very on-brand for her to try something different.
Not expecting to get the job, she sees it as a fresh start and is surprised when she actually enjoys it more than she thought she would. For the first time in a long time, she feels a sense of belonging.

This one was very entertaining. Maeve is a character I instantly fell in love with, and I only wanted good things to happen to her. She is such a breath of fresh air, and I connected with her desire to simply belong. Making friends, connecting with those around her, and not constantly looking for the next best option, hoping it will finally provide what she feels is missing in life.
Not only does she develop a connection with everyone, but the grumpy cowboy Wade slowly warming up to her is exactly what she needed. Did the age gap feel a little weird to me initially? Yes, but I went with it and took it for what it was.

The found family aspect of the book made me connect with it even more, and the way it touched on mental health and how it can impact someone’s life was something I appreciated seeing represented.
This was one for the heart. A book that left me feeling good about myself, like a warm hug. 🙂
