Review:
The first book left me eager to continue the series, and the second instalment certainly lived up to that anticipation. After the events of the first book, our central couple finds themselves separated, and I couldn’t help but root for them to find their way back to each other.
At first, a sense of tension builds beneath the surface, but once the pace increases, the story swiftly unfolds.. When one of the original members requires a new successor, it becomes clear that there is far more happening on the island than initially expected. Our characters are not as isolated as they once believed, which introduces new opportunities but also heightens the danger for everyone involved.
The island itself is portrayed as increasingly harsh and unforgiving, forcing opposing sides to come together simply to survive. The story also delves deeper into the pasts of the survivors, adding context and depth to their individual character arcs. I appreciated how this allowed for a better understanding of their motivations, showing that some of them were once very different people. It highlights, quite effectively, how extreme circumstances can shape and change individuals over time.
The ending sets the stage for what is to come, and it left me both satisfied and excited for the next instalment. Overall, this was an intense and engaging read, and I am more than ready to continue the journey.
