Review:

This was not what I expected, and that is actually a good thing.

I enjoy stories about time travel, and I like a good dinosaur story. Here, we get both combined in an interesting way. Lily is living her life in today’s world, doing what a mother does. When she gets a strange feeling one day, it already foreshadows that something will happen. When she wakes up in the middle of the night soon after, it becomes immediately clear that she is no longer at home. Finding out that she is in a world where dinosaurs exist is a shock to her. All by herself, she needs to adapt to her surroundings and find a way to survive.

The feeling of loneliness and how simple things become hurdles to overcome came across very well and connected with me from the beginning. Finding shelter, drinking water, finding food, and surviving the predators around her is not easy, and I really enjoyed taking the time to follow her on her journey of learning and adapting to the environment. Especially the feeling of being by herself, with no one to talk to, was one of my personal highlights. How she slowly builds a routine and makes friends so she doesn’t feel so alone anymore was something I appreciated a lot, as it was presented as one of the most important aspects. This made it feel very realistic to me, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have survived more than a few days at most.
This is a story that takes its time to help me connect to Lydie and allows me to spend time with her, especially in the beginning. The ending left me wanting more – exactly what I want a good book to do
