Review Mad About You by Heidi Stephens
Synopsis:

When an unexpected gift hands her a countryside cottage and a chance to rewrite her story at forty-three. . .

At forty-three, Meg’s life has drifted off course. Living back with her parents, with her career on hold, and making ends meet walking other people’s dogs, her days are quiet, simple – and slowly running out of meaning.

But everything changes when one of her clients dies and inexplicably leaves Meg her beautiful Cotswold house…along with three gloriously unruly dogs, and a note bearing the name of the local vet: Ed.

Ed is kind, intuitive, and frustratingly off-limits. But as Meg steps into a life she never asked for – surrounded by muddy boots, horses, and the weight of someone else’s legacy – she begins to realise this unexpected inheritance might just be the greatest gift of all.

Review:

If you’re a fan of romances that make you feel warm and cosy and leave you feeling just a little bit better by the end, this is the perfect book for you. It felt like a grown-up story (when Meg mentioned listening to S Club 7 in her youth, I was screaming inside), and it also avoids the typical third-act conflict. Guess what? These people can actually communicate throughout the whole book. It also comes with a lot of dogs (I’m more of a cat person, but I accepted it 🙂). What more could you ask for?

Meg is returning home after losing her job and ends up living with an elderly woman who has a lot of opinions. She is also a kind person, and when she passes away, she leaves her house to Meg, who suddenly becomes very financially stable. Meg also meets the handsome vet, Ed, who is already in a relationship, but they share a connection that just won’t go away. Adding to this is an interesting family (some members straying further from what you might consider lawful than others), all of whom come with their own unique and charming traits.

Meg feels as though she has been given a new outlook on life, and watching her become a better version of herself was such a lovely journey to unfold bit by bit. This is a feel-good read, and the dialogue was funny while also feeling mature. The same goes for the characters’ life experiences, which I appreciated a lot.
