Synopsis:
Officer Eden Mercer never backs down. With her loyal K-9 partner Shadow by her side, she patrols the fog-shrouded streets of Nightfall, Oregon—where danger hides in the most unexpected places.
When a young woman turns up dead at the base of a hiking trail, what looks like a tragic accident quickly unravels into something far more sinister. The victim had no history of drug use—so why was her blood full of methadone?
Eden’s search for answers pulls her deep into the shadows of Coastal Serenity, an exclusive rehab center with gleaming hallways and dark secrets. Beneath the glossy surface lies a web of corruption, insurance fraud, and calculated murder.
As Eden goes undercover, she finds herself drawn to a teenage patient caught in the same trap she once fought to escape—isolated, silenced, and dangerously alone. Eden knows exactly what it’s like to be a girl with no way out.
But someone inside the facility is watching her. And as her cover slips and the walls close in, Eden must risk everything to expose the truth—before another girl disappears, and the cycle begins again.

Synopsis:
I’m a fan of the series, and I was looking forward to continuing the journey by listening to this one. The prior book left us with Eden trying to find out more about her family, and we begin this book with her pausing that pursuit for now. Reality comes calling, and with a new murder taking place, she needs to return to her job.
We start the main story off by finding a woman dead on a trail. When details come to light, they do not resonate with what people know about her. It also turns out that the case is connected to another investigation. In her search for answers, Eden goes undercover, and I appreciated the slight deviation from our typical detective work, as it added an additional challenge for her. Was I convinced that she would do an amazing job? Absolutely. Was I concerned about her safety? Yes. I enjoyed following along on her journey as she put the puzzle pieces together.
Did her having access to all the data seem a bit unrealistic to me (as a corporate girly, I know a bit about access to sensitive data)? Maybe.
Overall, I enjoyed this one just as much as the prior ones, and as always, the narration was superb.
