Review:

This is one of those books where the cover caught my attention and promised an intriguing story. After finishing it, however, it felt like it promised a bit more than what I actually got.

A young child is forced to flee when his kingdom is attacked, going into hiding to survive. Ten years later, he returns to his old home, concealing the fact that he is the prince of the conquered kingdom. Using an alias, he enters and competes in three trials, where he catches the attention of the princess.
This is a rather short book, and it didn’t take me long to finish. Could I have done without the added pictures (which often didn’t contribute much to the overall story)? Yes.

The premise was interesting, and the idea of a returning prince emerging from hiding alongside the remaining people of his former kingdom, while seeking a peaceful solution, was compelling. However, there isn’t much action, dragon-related content, or romance. In the end, it didn’t fully deliver on what it seemed to promise.
It was an okay read, but I was hoping for a bit more.
