Synopsis:

It can be read as a standalone as it is entirely from the MMC’s POV, but will spoil the events of books 1-3 of the series.

Review:

Having a whole series (already finished) retold from a different POV can either be a fantastic addition or add very little value. I’m sitting somewhere in the middle with this one.
While it can be read as a standalone, I would urge you to read the main series first. I’ve done that, and I noticed that without prior knowledge, there would have been quite a few gaps in certain situations. It felt like the “Why does person X suddenly have this knowledge? Where did she get that thing from?” type of situation. Having that prior knowledge gave me a much better understanding of what was happening.

The main things missing from the original series were what happened when our two main characters weren’t together and the missing memories. While some of those gaps are filled when the story is shown from Holt’s POV, I felt that, overall, the majority of the new content didn’t add much to the story. While I appreciated what was done, I wouldn’t consider this a must-read.
I enjoyed the first three books and enjoyed returning to the world. On some occasions, this book helped me remember what happened and added a few extra details here and there. Did I need such a long book for that? Maybe not. But that might come down to how much you really love the characters and how much this additional perspective adds for you.
