Review:

I appreciate it when authors integrate personal experiences into their stories and use their platform to raise awareness for illnesses that are not talked about enough and deserve to be recognised for what they are and how they affect those impacted by them, especially the ones that are not obvious at first glance. For that, I have to applaud the author.

When it comes to the story as such, I wasn’t fully connecting with it. Angel gets a chance to become the lead singer of a well-known band after winning a casting competition. The next ten years are spent living her dream life and enjoying every moment of it. Being in the public eye comes with its downsides, but overall, the passion she has for what she does comes across very well. The band forms a strong bond, and when Angel notices that something might be wrong with her health, they are there for her. There is one person, though, who seems to have missed the memo, and I instantly disliked them early on.
Angel returns home to understand what the diagnosis will mean for her and has to accept that it will significantly impact both her life and the lives of those around her.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, but I never felt fully connected to it. Maybe it would have worked better if it had been told from Angel’s POV? I found myself asking that question several times throughout the book.
While some of the characters worked well, others felt flat, and I simply did not understand their connection or, in particular, how they suddenly became that relevant. What I take away from this book is an important message, and that message was conveyed very well. Sometimes things happen that you cannot run away from, and sometimes closing one chapter means opening a whole new book filled with new possibilities.
