Review:
That was weirdly entertaining, and I mean that in a good way.
The beginning immediately sets the tone. Someone fell and got hurt. It wasn’t clear to me whether that person was still alive and if it had been an accident or not. The conversation planted the seed of doubt that it could have been either. That’s how you start a book and get me interested.
We then jump back a week and slowly learn what happened leading up to the beginning, and how past events contributed to it.
I love when a book is good at misleading me. It seemed so clear in the beginning: a woman running away from her abusive boyfriend with a friend, trying to spend some time away from everything and find a moment of clarity. That part was so believable that I didn’t doubt it for a minute, and it put me in exactly the right mindset to accept the beginning as a consequence of it. I was also hoping it would lead to someone getting out of a bad situation.
As the puzzle pieces fell into place and I started noticing things that didn’t make sense, or doubting my understanding of the situation, I became suspicious that everything wasn’t as obvious as I had initially thought. The twist was done very well, and I enjoyed this book quite a lot, especially since it was such a quick and easy read.
