Synopsis:

Review:

The second book in the series felt so much better than the first one (not that the first was bad). The writing felt more mature and no longer simple, while still remaining very accessible and adding complexity without leaving me lost or confused about what was going on. After just a few pages, I was immediately invested, and the book managed to hold my attention all the way to the end.
We pick up immediately after the events of the first book, with everyone facing the consequences of one of their own being kidnapped and having to go after him. They also know they need a solid plan and take the time to prepare for it. Rushing anything would only lead to more loss, and the constant struggle between preparing for that day and knowing that Roman must endure more torture every day his rescue is delayed came across very well to me.
We are still working with a relatively small cast, and what I appreciated in this instalment is that we actually spend time with the characters and get to know them better. I felt a much stronger connection to them and became more invested in their actions and in how they developed into the friendship group they are now. I felt like I was truly on the journey with them, understanding their motivations, which was something I felt was missing a little in the first book.
Overall, we spend time with everyone, learn about a major betrayal, and embark on an important mission together. The ending has me looking forward to seeing how their journey continues after that cliffhanger.
