Synopsis:

Anya Thomas has spent years feeling like part of her life’s puzzle was missing.

With her divorce finalized and her twins off to college, she’s unmoored in the Arizona desert. When she unexpectedly inherits an outdated house in Peach Blossom, Oklahoma, Anya finds more than a mystery, creaky floors, and peeling paint. The house—and the guarded sibling she must share it with—hold connections to a past she never knew and a future she isn’t sure she’s ready to claim.

A forgotten box of letters reveals a decades-old love story filled with sacrifice, faith, and longing. As Anya pieces together the saga of those who came before her, she begins to uncover the missing parts of herself—and discovers that love, in all its forms, can lead to a second chance at any age.

Review:

I had high hopes for this one, and it started out very promising.

Anya has reached a point in her life where she needs to figure out what comes next. Her children have moved out, her divorce is finalized, and being on her own is entirely new territory. When she receives documents informing her that she has inherited a house from relatives, her curiosity is sparked, and she decides to look into it.

It doesn’t take long for her to realize that there is much more to her past than she ever knew, and uncovering the truth about her real family brings far more complications than she anticipated.

The beginning was the part I enjoyed most. Being at a crossroads in life and suddenly receiving a kind of sign – an unexpected opportunity to change direction – felt full of potential. However, when the story shifted toward thriller territory, it moved in a direction I didn’t expect and didn’t particularly want it to go.

Was it still an enjoyable read? Yes. But it didn’t come close to the experience the first book in the series gave me as a reader.
