Review Finale by Stephanie Garber (2)

Here we are with the official finale of the series and my Review for it after re-reading it. There is a holiday novella left, which was released last year. I took it as a good opportunity to re-read the main series again this year, so I could read the christmas themed Novella actuall in season. At least not in summer 🙂

If you are interested in my Review of the prior two books, you can find them below.

Synopsis:

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…all games must come to an end.

It’s been two months since the last Caraval concluded, two months since the Fates have been freed from an enchanted deck of cards, two months since Tella has seen Legend, and two months since Legend claimed the empire’s throne as his own. Now, Legend is preparing for his official coronation and Tella is determined to stop it. She believes her own mother, who still remains in an enchanted sleep, is the rightful heir to the throne.

Meanwhile, Scarlett has started a game of her own. She’s challenged Julian and her former fiancé, Count Nicolas d’Arcy, to a competition where the winner will receive her hand in marriage. Finaly, Scarlett feels as if she is in complete control over her life and future. She is unaware that her mother’s past has put her in the greatest danger of all.

Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun―with lives, empires, and hearts all at stake. There are no spectators this time: only those who will win…and those who will lose everything.

Review:

I am a bit torn here with my Review. I enjoyed the series overall but each book I enjoyed a little bit less along the way.

We have Scarlett, that thinks that two men fighting for her is the best way to find out who to marry. Her fiancé was introduced to us as a nice man but besides that, not much was offered that had us even remotely consider him as a suitable partner for her. It felt overall a bit unnecessary to me.

We also learned that Scarlett is connected to the fates more than we thought and she tries to kill the murder of her mother to send the fates back to their cards. How she did it at the end sounded a bit unrealistic to me.

And then we have Tella, who want Legend to love her, but he does not want to give up his immortality and is trying to convince her to become immortal also, but not feel love. Adding Jack into the mix makes everyone’s choices a lot more complex.

There were a lot of elements I enjoyed about the book, but also a lot that fell flat to me. Overall, still a good series that I enjoyed reading but won’t read for a third time.
