Synopsis:

A dead body. A deadly secret. A desire they can’t escape.

In the idyllic village of Compton Slaughter, private investigator Lilly Hawthorne has built a reputation for solving mysteries – whether it’s a a missing cat or a cheating spouse. But when one of her clients turns up brutally murdered on the village green, she finds herself tangled in a case far more sinister than anything she’s faced before.

Enter DI Zack Lawson – ex-army, all business, and utterly infuriating. Sent from the city to lead the investigation, Zack is determined to crack the case, and he has no time for Lilly’s reckless, rule-breaking methods, or all this small village nonsense. From the moment they meet, sparks fly – and not the good kind.

But there’s something Zack doesn’t know. Months ago, at a decadent masked ball, he and Lilly shared a scorching, anonymous encounter – one that still haunts both of them. He never found out who she was. She never planned to see him again. Now, forced to work together, the heat between them is impossible to ignore.

As bodies pile up and buried secrets resurface, Lilly and Zack must put their differences aside to catch a killer lurking in the heart of their sleepy village. But with every step closer to the truth, the danger grows, and so does the fire between them.

Murder. Mystery. Unstoppable chemistry. Dirty Lies is a stand-alone steamy, enemies-to-lovers romance packed with suspense, wit, and sizzling tension. Perfect for fans of smart heroines, brooding detectives, and small-town secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Review:

After reading Dirty Fake, I knew I wanted to read more of the author. I wanted to continue with something easy to consume and not occupying to much brain power – and I got exactly that. Still not an enemies to lovers trope though.

Lilly & Zack meet at an event and end up spending the night together, not expecting to run into each other again. And that is exactly what happens 🙂 Is it a bit predictable? Yes, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. We get a small-town murder (with a not so complex reason), two people having to work together (having their prior encounter being very present) to solve it. Along the way their characters clash (leading to some entertaining conversations), they learn more about each other and the banter becomes something more.

It’s an easy and entertaining read if you are looking for something that leaves you smiling and appreciate the time invested for what it is calling it an enemy to lovers is not correct in my opinion and the spice level was also fine for me). A romance that starts out based on something physical, add a story for them to grow (nothing too complex) and ends up becoming more. A concept that isn’t new but works if this is what you’re looking for.
