Review:
This is a story about a young woman who is trying to find her path, uncover the truth about her past, and make a decision that will shape her future. It’s a big responsibility for her to carry.
I enjoyed many of the elements woven into the book. Aisling is a likeable character who genuinely wants to trust the people around her, only to learn that not everyone has her best interests at heart. Watching her gradually uncover her past and regain lost memories is engaging, and her determination to reclaim what was taken from her, and piece her life back together, drives much of the story’s momentum.
What I felt was missing was more space for the characters to grow, along with a deeper understanding of the world and each character’s motivation. The book is on the shorter side, and given the limited amount of pages, only so much could be explored. I found myself wanting more, more depth, more time, more detail to fully immerse myself in the story. In a way, that desire speaks to the potential that’s clearly here.
What I did get was a solid and enjoyable read, one that hints at something larger. And since this is the start of a series, I’m looking forward to seeing that potential unfold in the next installments.
