If you’re looking for a thriller that leans into the strange, the unsettling, and the downright disturbing things people are capable of, this one delivers. It begins innocently enough as we meet our protagonist, who works at a hotel and has clearly not had an easy life so far. When an unexpected opportunity appears, she decides to take a chance – only to realize very quickly that this job is anything but ordinary.

Within a few days, she begins to question her decision. What happens behind those closed doors is not only unsettling but forces her to confront her own regrets. As she starts asking questions and we learn what truly takes place in this hidden world, the story becomes increasingly disturbing. It also raises an uncomfortable but fascinating question: Is it safer to let certain people indulge their darkest urges in a controlled environment, or is ignorance the only way to preserve one’s sanity?

I enjoyed this one. Some of what was happening became obvious early on. That didn’t take away from having fun for me. Listening to what was happening added a different layer to the story and the narrator did a really good job to bring across what was happening and how disturbing some of it was.
