Review Our Dream Home by Jessica Huntley
Synopsis:

I never win anything. Not competitions. Not arguments. Not affection from my own children.
Most days, I’m just getting through – dodging teenage sarcasm, scraping fishfingers off plates, wishing my husband would just notice me once in a while.
Then came the emails. Win a car! Win a holiday! Win a house!
Spam, obviously. I blocked them.
But then I heard the radio. A real dream-home giveaway.
And for one moment – stuck between roadworks and honking horns – I let myself want something.
I texted in.
And suddenly my whole life changed.
Now we’re living in a house bigger than my wildest dreams – and my darkest nightmares.
Because the threats started almost immediately. Someone congratulating me . . . by name.
Someone who knows about the mistake that ruined everything sixteen years ago.
They know the truth. They want something from me.
And if I don’t give it to them, my lucky break will become a death sentence.

Review:

We learn early on that Fiona struggled with certain issues during her teenage years. A dramatic event set the stage for everything that followed, and the full impact of it unfolds gradually. On the surface, her marriage appears similar to many long‑term relationships: not perfect, with children rebelling against their mother while the father avoids choosing sides. His attempts to stay neutral create distance between the adults. It’s also clear that certain roles have formed over time, and Fiona is unhappy with them, even though she continues pushing through for the sake of her family. She isn’t perfect and has made questionable choices in the past, but nothing that warrants what lies ahead.

When her life, and her family’s life, suddenly shifts after she becomes the winner of a dream home, it initially seems like the perfect chance to start over. But, as so often happens, things that appear too good to be true usually are. As events begin to spiral, Fiona starts to regret decisions from both her past and her present.

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by this author, so I already had a sense of her writing style and how I tend to respond to it. This one did not disappoint. It was easy to read, fast‑paced, and kept me guessing until all the pieces finally came together. I had my suspicions early on, but some aspects still managed to surprise me, so props to the author for that. I have a feeling that I’ll be looking out for more titles by the author going forward.
