Review:

With only around 140 pages, setting the scene, keeping me curious, and laying the foundation for future installments is a difficult task.

After finishing the book, I felt that this goal wasn’t fully achieved. The opening scene is strong. I understood what happened to our FMC and how those events would shape her future. But after the time jump, we’re introduced to several characters who already share established relationships, and I found it hard to follow how those connections formed. Much of it relied on just trust what I’m telling you instead of letting the reader discover it naturally. When the tension was supposed to rise, I struggled to stay invested. The ease with which the characters handled situations, and how conveniently help or information appeared whenever they needed it, felt unrealistic.

A lot of this likely comes down to the limited page count, which didn’t leave much room to fully develop the plot, relationships, or world-building. While the story is easy to read, it felt like a collection of puzzle pieces that never quite clicked together for me.
At this point, I’m not sure whether I’ll continue with the series.
