Audiobook Only the Dead by Jack Carr

This one is the 6th book in the *The Terminal List* series. I’ve been listening to them in Audiobook form and really appreciated the Narrator Ray Porter. This is a series where you must start from the beginning. For each of the prior ones you can find the corresponding Audiobook Reviews here:

Synopsis:

1978, Rhode Island: A freshman senator is gunned down, sending shockwaves through Washington that are still reverberating over four decades later.

Now: In a world on the brink of war, facing rampant inflation, political division and shocking assassinations, a secret cabal of global elites are ready to assume control. And with the world’s most dangerous man locked in solitary confinement, the conspirators believe the final obstacle to complete domination has been eliminated. They’re wrong.

From the firms of Wall Street to the corridors of power in Washington, DC and Moscow, secrets from the past have an uncanny ability to rise to the surface, and with the odds stacked against him, James Reece is on a deadly mission generations in the making. But for a man on the warpath, odds are not important . . .

Review:

After the Cliff-hanger ending of the prior one, all I wanted to know is where James Reece is. And it did not disappoint. The man is not allowed to rest for even one minute.

The search for his father’s box continued in this one and the content was a conspiracy it epic proportions. I enjoyed the back and forth between the current and past timeline, allowing us to learn more about his father and how everything connected.

Can I imagine a secret organization existing controlling major events and try to haven global events happen if they benefit from it? Absolutely. I don’t even have to think about this twice. The details and steps taken to influence a favourable outcome left me speechless. Is it this simple?

The series gets better and better with each book, and I appreciate the political situation and social factors finding their way into the story. This makes it even more *realistic*.

One more to go before the I’m up to date with the series. Looking forward to it.
