With Germany’s release date (15.01.2026) of the movie adaption being one of the last remaining countries, I was able to read the book before (which is something I enjoy doing to prepare myself).
Synopsis:
Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.
I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.
I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.
But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.
They don’t know what I’m capable of…

Review:
I hade this one on my reading list for such a long time and finally got around to it. What a pleasant surprise this one was.
The first few pages had me hooked immediately. Millie getting the job to become the housemaid of a rich family without being qualified for it wasn’t suspicious at all…
What sounded like a dream come true and allowing her a fresh start, became a nightmare rather quickly.
The twists and turns made me it enjoy it even more. Everyone ended up being a different person compared to how they were introduced to us in the beginning. When everything became connected and the ball started rolling, it could only end in a messy way, and I devoured it. Some things I saw coming a mile away, while others were surprising. The ending perfectly set up the second book.
If you have this on your reading list, pick it up now. You won’t regret it.
