What about font size?

Font Size difference

I consider my eyesight as being pretty good. I had an accident when I was a child, and something hit the right sight of my face very close to the eye. I had emergency surgery and a nice scar below my eye to show for it. I can see with my right eye as good as with my left eye, but the main difference is speed. Imagine a camera that takes a lot of time to focus on an object before it becomes sharp. That is my right eye 🙂 Sometimes I don’t even notice it and sometimes I am aware (especially if something blocks my left eye).

It does its job, but needs a tad be longer to focus on the task at hand. It’s not impacting any daily activities, but I am aware. If it starts to get dark (especially when lying in bed with a smaller light source) I prefer a slightly bigger font size for reading books. If I have the option of picking a version of a book with a slightly bigger one, I’m willing to pay extra for the ease of the reading experience.

What happened recently?

If a book is tuned into a TV series or movie and it is from an author I usually like, I’m either reading or listening to the book before the release (if possible). My latest example is the Institute from Stephen King. Now, that all episodes are available, I wanted to read the book first and then watch all of them. Not knowing what to expect I added the book to my TBR until one evening it was time to start reading. After 2s seconds of a confused stare, I put the book down and stopped immediately. Why did I do that? Here’s why:

Font Size difference

On the right side you can see what I saw when looking at it. It might not look that bad at first glance, but I can promise you, I was not filling to suffer through that 🙂 The top left corner is a better representation of what I was looking at. Font size 4 is not what I want to see in any book I’m reading.

So, I did what every book nerd does and looked online for a different version. I was not planning on spending a lot of money here so I was very happy when I found an online store, I could utilize some of my loyalty points and basically got it *for free*. Is the alternative drastically better? Not really. But I’m willing to read this version for sure instead of the original one.

I could have gotten the Kindle version also, but that required spending extra money (not willing to do in that scenario).

Now I’m interested in your general opinion. Ignoring my individual situation, which Font Size do you prefer when reading a book?
