Review Over the Edge by Stephanie Black

When I started the first book of the series I was not expecting to enjoy the series so much. For me this one is a hidden gem and I hope that one of you might become interested in the series.

Synopsis:

SIX MONTHS AGO, ACCUSATIONS of murder threw Rayna Kirkpatrick’s life into turmoil, and her fight to prove her innocence nearly got her killed. Now, she seeks healing and refuge, but as a Trespasser—a person with lethal paranormal abilities—she can’t escape the attention of the covert government organization monitoring her. They want her on their team, but Rayna wants to maintain her quiet life in Willet Beach, living next door to her sister and running a small pottery studio.

SPECIAL AGENT DAMON HALE has been assigned to keep an eye on Rayna. The abilities that would make her a valuable member of the Trespasser team would also make her a powerful weapon in the hands of an enemy; it’s Damon’s job to keep her safe and ensure that information about her Trespasser status remains classified. He’s posing as her boyfriend to provide an excuse for the time they spend together, but, privately, each of them is struggling with that cover story; their feelings for each other are becoming all too real.

RAYNA’S ATTEMPT AT A peaceful life shatters when she rescues a woman from a fire, an act that drags her into a whirlpool of rumors and deadly secrets. As Damon works to protect her, he’s torn by the knowledge that managing this crisis might require decisions that will devastate Rayna and that the line between ally and enemy may be more blurred than either of them imagined.

Review Over the Edge by Stephanie Black

Review:

After everything that happened in the first book, I was hoping for Rayna that things would slow down, and she was allowed to live her life for a bit. Someone had other plans and unfortunately, she was put in the uncomfortable role of a murder suspect again.

I enjoyed the new characters being added to the mix and how everything seemed so random to begin with but along the way, each puzzle piece added complexity until I felt emotionally connected to Rayna and her frustration. She did not deserve to unwanted attention complication an already messy situation. I like that we have smart people doing dumb things and we don’t simply trust on what we see and have characters that have a connection and take something obvious for what it is and question what is presented to them.

On top of that she accepts that she considers Damon more than simply a colleague. That does complicate things significantly with him protecting her and a relationship not being something that make the situation any easier.

I did not expect to enjoy the second book in the series even more than the first one. The relationship between the siters was on of my highlights again and then ending lay the perfect groundworks for what’s to come. I did not see a confirmation yet, but I have no doubt that it cannot end here, I want more.
