Am I very happy and appriciate every ARC I am able to read? Absolutely. Sometimes I am just a little bit more happy when I get approved for one 🙂 This book is one of these. I hope you are looking forward to my Review of it.
Synopsis:
The sky is a dangerous place for a girl without wings.
In the war-torn kingdom of Lordach, Ezer has spent two years as the Ravenminder of Rendegard. Chained in a prison tower’s aviary, she pays the debts of the man she calls uncle, who rescued her after shadow wolves killed her parents. With three glittering scars on her cheek and mystical ‘strangeties’ unlike any magic in their world, Ezer is haunted by dreams of her death at the hands of an unknown warrior.
Then a Sacred Knight arrives to recruit Ezer for the fight against the enemy, the Acolyte. When her affinity with birds reveals itself on the journey to the Citadel, she is given a new mission: to help the Prince of Lordach tame one of the Acolyte’s captured raphons. Half giant raven, half black panther, these creatures are as loyal to the Acolyte as his strongest darksoul soldiers . . and only they can make the flight to infiltrate his lair.
While Ezer forges an unbreakable bond with the raphon, her heart becomes torn between the loyal Knight and the mysterious Prince. But as her dreams take on new clarity, she finds herself faced with a choice and a question: has the darkness been her destiny all along?

Review:
It doesn’t happen often anymore, that I enjoyed a book this much. Especially in the fantasy genre recently.
Ezer lives with her uncle, her only living relative. She has an affinity for talking to the Ravens and takes over when he is called away. One day a stranger shows up and needs her take over for her uncle.
This is the beginning of a story about trust, falling in love and learning about her past and that she is a lot more important than she originally thought to be all her life.
Ezer challenges the situation she is in and her connection with the Raphon was done so well. They are so different but have so much in common, making it relatable for them to form such a strong bond.
I was also on board with the love triangle here, which was not overdone in my opinion.
The 500 pages flew by. We met a lot of characters (and surprisingly, I enjoyed most of them equally) and the ending left me wanting more.
And what I really appreciated the author doing:
Not making it about the smut. We experience characters that establish an emotional connection first and once it gets a bit more physical, we are left to our own imagination.
