I enjoyed the first title in the series so much, that I started with the second one (also as an Audiobook, thanks to my Amazon Music Unlimited subsciption including one Audibook each month) shortly after. It did not disapoint. If you missed my Review of the first book in the series, feel free to read my review of The Terminal List first.
Synopsis
In acclaimed author Jack Carr’s follow-up to The Terminal List, former Navy SEAL James Reece’s skill, cunning, and heroism put the US government back in his debt and set him on another path of revenge.
When a string of horrific terrorist attacks plagues the Western world during the holiday season, the broader markets fall into a tailspin. The attacks are being coordinated by a shadowy former Iraqi commando who has disappeared into Europe’s underground. The United States government has an asset who can turn the Iraqi against his masters: James Reece, the most-wanted domestic terrorist alive.
After avenging the deaths of his family and team members, Reece emerges deep in the wilds of Mozambique, protected by the family of his estranged best friend and former SEAL Team member. When a series of events uncovers his whereabouts, the CIA recruits him, using a Presidential pardon for Reece and immunity for the friends who helped him in his mission of vengeance.
Now a reluctant tool of the United States government, Reece travels the globe, targeting terrorist leaders, unraveling a geopolitical conspiracy that exposes a traitorous CIA officer, and uncovering a sinister assassination plot with worldwide repercussions.

Review
Let’s start with me falling in love with the Narrator of the Audiobooks. Ray Porter is a pleasure to listen too and after spending a lot of hours with him again (I’m usually listening with 1.2x speed), we have another winner with the second book in the series.
We start immediately after what happened in the first book. James left everything and everyone behind accepting the fate that he’ll die soon. He chose a life on see and avoids any contact to land (unless it is for restocking). Cut off from any outside contact, he is not aware about terrorist attacks happening in europe.
When he arrives in Mozambique he meets an old friends and decides to join him and his team. During an attack, his friend gets injured and when at the hospital a small mistake results in someone from his old life to show up again. He expects to be taken in but gets offered something else in response and learns, that his life might not be over yet.
His expertise and skills are required to identify the person responsible for the attacks. He takes on the challenge (he is not having much of a choice) and in typical Jack Carr style, it starts to get messy very quickly and I was here for it. I enjoyed the *no bullshit* approach way too much and have a new found appreciation for everything various agencies and the military are doing. Frightening and comforting at the same time.
One a side note, I have never heard *redacted* that many times before in such a short amount of time 🙂
