Audiobook Project Hail Mary

If I see a movie trailer that interest me and the story is based on a book, the chance of me buying the book (so I can read it before the movie comes out) is very high. That’s what I did here 🙂 I got it on Kindle first and after a lot of readers raving about the Audiobook, added also the Audiobook (which is an Audible exclusive based on the very obvious note on the picture below 😉 ).
What I wasn’t aware of is, that that it is narrated by the same person that does the The Terminal List (which I also started getting into as an Audiobook). Lucky me I guess 🙂

If you are thinking about getting the book also, give the Audiobook verson a try. I think I found my favorite Narrator and looking at his portfolio, I can already see why 🙂 If you prefer to read it, don’t let me stop you.

Synopsis

A lone astronaut. An impossible mission. An ally he never imagined.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and Earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

Review

One thing I’d propose if you intend to read the book: If you did not watch the movie trailer yet or you did watch it and can’t remember all the details anymore, skip it for now.

Either enjoy the book or (even better): Go and get the Audiobook. Ray Porter does an amazing job and my brain was also thinking of Ryan Gosling the whole time. Did I mention that I am really looking forward to watching the movie 🙂

I don’t want to spoil too much here, so I’m gonna keep it short and sweet:

We start by a man waking up naked with tubes attached to his body. He has no idea who he is, where he is and how he got there. On top of that there is a computer voice asking the same question over and over again. He tries to figure things out bit by bit and we follow him along, while we get flashbacks of what he remembers.

The book is full of humor, a lot of science, biology, physics and a lot of things I had no desire to know, but here we are (with me already forgotten most of it) 🙂

I enjoyed this wild ride soo much and the Book is one of my top reads of the year so far. Thanks *internet* for making me buy this one.

If you are still thinking about it, stop waiting and commit.
